Jacksonville is located near Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach and Jacksonville Beach in the coastal region of northeast Florida. Nearby you can find the banks of the St. Johns River, and you are close to the Mill Cove. You can have a quick drive to the Timucaun Ecological & Historical Preserve You can also drive further to south to reach Miami. As early as the 16th century, European settlers have come to Jacksonville in search of a suitable place to live and trade.
Jacksonville FL History
Jacksonville, FL became a settlement as it was founded back in 1791. It was originally called Cowford, because of where it was located at a narrow point in the river where cattle once crossed. The US experienced a windfall of a land acquisition in 1822 from Spain. We received the colony of Florida and the city was renamed after Andrew Jackson, the the military governor of pre-admission Florida. Andrew Jackson would become the 7th President of the United States of America. The City of Jacksonville was incorporated as a city in 1832. Most of the city was burned or destroyed in the Civil War. As the city rebuilt, it was soon evident that the city would be the center of commerce and politics and for the area. It became a veritable transportation and distribution hub in the state. Jacksonville has been an ideal area to live ever since.
